A sitting panel of connoisseurs awarded brand owner of African Sun Wines (also Mara Wines owner) two prestigious medals at the 4th Annual USA Wine Ratings Competition held in San Francisco. This result places the two winning brands: Mara Nyeupe (Chenin Blanc) – Gold and Mara Nyekundu – Silver; ahead of its peers in terms of quality and class.
Participants were rated out of a possible 100 points based on three different criteria including quality, value, and packaging. The Chenin Blanc (Nyeupe), is inspired by Kenya, and was chosen for its well-balanced acidity and floral tropical fruit notes . On the other hand, Mara Nyekundu was also recognised and sized up based on quality and widespread consumer appeal.
For the South African proprietors, winning a gold and silver medal at the USA Wine Ratings Competition is an ultimate seal of approval, a brand stature that puts Mara wines in a higher league among brands consumed especially in East African markets.
The event was organised by Beverage Trade Network (BTN), which also hosts other global events and owns media channels and platforms that connect the global drinks industry.”Consumers are increasingly thinking of wines as brands, just like they would any other product they find in a supermarket,” stressed Sid Patel, CEO and Founder of Beverage Trade Network.
