WORLD: DWWA (Decanter World Wine Awards) 2021 surprising outcome

Amid the circumstances surrounding the pandemic and just a downright hard year, Decanter.com pulled off another tough assessment of world wines with an event that presented over 18,000 entries and 170 judges from all over the globe. The past year was tough – The Wine Story featured a daunting fire and frost season that affected France, hit-and-miss tourism sector, higher tariffs and selected curfew hours imposed in various countries – we never thought we shall see this day. The folks at The Decanter call it Roll Call Of Honour:

Best in Show Platinums – 20 Platinums & 63 Gold medals.

Prosecco Best in Show Platinum – Tuscan & 146 Gold medals.

Best In show Performance Platinum – 15 and biggest share of top 50.

Russia – 1 Platinum.

Japan – 2 Platinums & 4 Golds

Ukraine – 2 Golds

China – 1 Platinum & 3 Golds.

Gold Medals (95-96pts) account for just 3.51% of our entries. These are the best of the best.

Platinum & Best In Show – When you note the 97-point scores. 0.99% attain platinum in most cases – relating to the competition as a whole.
